This course offers an interdisciplinary approach to the relation between brewing history, science, and the modern world.

An interdisciplinary study of the historical relation between brewing, science, and culture from the birth of beer to its role in the evolution of thermodynamics, sanitation, chemistry, taxation, bacteriology, nationalism and quantum mechanics. Explore the role brewing played in the development of early civilizations, medieval abbeys, the modern state, the industrial revolution, and much more, through the reading of primary sources, the reproduction of historical experiments, and field trips.
