Dr. Jonathan Ferrier, Assistant Professor of Biology, Dalhousie University

As part of the 2019 King’s History of Science and Technology Conference, Alternative Histories of Science, Dr. Jonathan Ferrier will present a keynote lecture entitled “Native Science and Colonialism.” Dr. Ferrier is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Dalhousie University. His address will focus on native science, conservation, and the history of colonialism on Turtle Island. Discussions of these topics are rarely had and sorely needed — in science, as in all fields of study, we have a responsibility to challenge colonialism and question dominant ways of thinking.

Following Dr. Ferrier’s talk, there will be a reception in the Wilson Common Room with food and drinks.

In parallel to the event, the History of Science and Technology Society will be fundraising for the Mi’kmaq Child Development Centre Pow Wow. A donation box will be set up at the entrance of the lecture hall for the duration of the conference. If you are interested in donating, please bring some change! Donations are not mandatory, but certainly appreciated.
