Under the supervision of the Trades Manager – Facilities, the Building Systems Technician (Electrical) is responsible for maintenance (preventative, corrective and immediate repair) and mechanical work with an emphasis on electrical systems maintenance. They will also assist outside contractors with troubleshooting and repairing of HVAC Systems and assist outside contractors/Dalhousie University with steam heat system problems. On a rotational basis, they will be On Call – 24 Hours, 7 Day contact for the university in case of emergency services. This is a full-time permanent role.

The Building Systems Technician (Electrical) will assemble install, test, and maintain electrical wiring equipment including but not limited to panels, receptacles, appliances, lighting, motors, pumps, controls, etc. The position is also responsible for diagnosing malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair (pumps, motors, HVAC, lighting systems) on 120V, 208V, 240V and 600V systems. The successful hire will also plan, layout, and install electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specs and Canadian Electrical Code including renovations/additions to residence rooms, offices, and classrooms in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and National Building Code. They will also install and maintain access control systems including card access system (residence room doors and Corby System), automatic door operators and related electrical hardware and access control systems. They will also perform routine maintenance checks on building mechanical systems including but not limited to inspection, maintenance and repair of belts/filters, among other duties as assigned by the Trades Manager.

The ideal candidate will have the following training and specializations; Red Seal Certification with Fall Arrest, Basic First Aid, Elevated Work Platform and Special constable training considered assets.

You have a minimum of 5 years of work experience. Experience at a university environment is considered an asset. Extensive knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and National Building Code.

Salary will be commensurate with level of education and experience. The salary range for this position is: $53,950 to $60,414 including a benefits plan with medical and dental.
