Machines, automations, cyborgs! They are all around us. This lecture series/class will explore our intimate relationships with living machines, from the myths of Ovid and ancient talking statues, through the fantastic mechanical automatons of the early modern period, to the rise of robots, cyborgs, AI and artificial living things in our modern period. Drawing on the combined resources of theatre, literature, art, science and philosophy the class will be built around a series of public lectures, offered by leading authorities in these fields.
