On November 7 in Alumni Hall, journalist Craig Silverman will deliver the keynote lecture of the 2019 Joseph Howe Symposium. Silverman, the media editor of BuzzFeed News, is one of the world’s leading experts on online misinformation.

At the biennial Joseph Howe Symposium, the School of Journalism examines a topic of  civic interest and importance to journalism. Along with this year’s topic and keynote lecturer, the King’s Journalism is offering a new elective on online misinformation entitled “Is it True? Journalism Verification Techniques“.

Originally from Halifax, Craig Silverman is a Toronto-based journalist and author whose work has focused on fake news and the attention economy. At BuzzFeed, he covers platforms, online misinformation, and media manipulation globally. He has founded a number of journalism websites, including the hoax-tracking website Emergent.info, OpenFile and the Regret the Error blog, which ran from 2004 to 2015 and became a book of the same name in 2009.
