King's alumnus shortlisted for an Oscar for short film on Afghanistan

Ariel Nasr’s (BAH ’05) film, "Buzkashi Boys", has been shortlisted for an Oscar. It is one of 11 live action short actions films, selected from a long-list of 125, to advance in the voting process for the Academy Awards. 

Ariel is from Halifax and studied in the History of Science and Technology programme at the University of King’s College. Now an independent Afghan Canadian filmmaker, his work focuses on documenting contemporary Afghan society.

"Buzkashi Boys" has won Best Cinematography at the UK Film Festival, Best Short at the Savannah Film Festival, and Best Short at the Raindance Film Festival. The half-hour film will be screened in Alumni Hall on 12 December, 8.00 PM, with slide show and discussion with Ariel to follow afterwards. 

Ariel is also the director of the award-winning documentaries "The Boxing Girls of Kabul" and "Good Morning Kandahar".
