Alexandra “Alex” McCann is the Director of Science & Technology at Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI). She covers the clean technology, life sciences and ocean technology portfolio for NSBI and has over 12 years of experience in international trade and finance. Throughout her career, she has worked within a wide range of sectors, including clean tech, oil and gas, petrochemicals, telecommunications, and power.

In her role as Business Initiatives Specialist with the Office of Renewable Energy and Environmental Exports at the Export-Import Bank of the U.S. (Ex-Im Bank), Alex conceptualized and executed the “Renewable Energy Express” product, and participated in the Africa Taskforce and Environmental Working Group, which developed the first carbon policy for the Bank. As principal of her independent consultant practice, Alex focused on identifying financing options and document assistance for clean tech companies. She understands the legal, commercial, and credit risks involved in a new venture.

Alex is passionate about helping companies achieve their goals in Nova Scotia, and works diligently to find creative and personalized solutions. She holds a BA from the University of Virginia, double major in Anthropology and Asian Studies and earned an MA from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in Pacific Asian Studies.

Alex has traveled extensively and has lived in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Thailand, Côte D’Ivoire, but calls Halifax, Nova Scotia home.
