This course will involve an examination of the relations between memory, theory and representation in the context of proliferating ‘cultures of memory’. Differing theoretical approaches to memory from the philosophy and psychoanalysis of the 19th and 20th centuries will be explored, alongside various genres and practices of memory (political, memorial, artistic and critical).
