Chapel Choir CD named ‘Outstanding Recording for the Year’

Chapel Choir CD named 'Outstanding Recording for the Year'

The King’s College Chapel Choir CD, Let Us Keep the Feast: Music for the Church Year, was named Outstanding Recording for the Year at the Choral Canada’s bi-annual Podium conference in Halifax, 15-17 May 2014.

Recorded in the Cathedral Church of All Saints in Halifax in April 2013, the CD was launched in December to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the founding of the University of King’s College in 1789. The CD is just over an hour long and contains 15 tracks, ranging from the 9th century Hymn of Kassia and 16th century pieces by Palestrina, Byrd, Tallis, and Handl, to 20th century pieces by W H Harris, Fauré, and the choir’s music director Paul Halley. Halley hopes the CD will be first of many recordings.

A few tracks from the CD can be heard on the choir’s YouTube channel.

Choral Canada’s National Awards program was established in 1988 to honour outstanding contributions to Canadian choral music. The awards are presented every two years at Podium.

The CD is available from the King’s Co-op Bookstore, tel 902.422.1271, ext 261, and online. CDs cost $18 each, including tax.
