The 2014 Judge J Elliott Hudson Award will be awarded to Elizabeth Strong Reagh, QC. This award is given to an alumna/us who, like Judge Hudson, has made significant contributions to his or her discipline, community, and charitable or volunteer work
Elizabeth Reagh received a BA from King’s in 1957 and an LLB from Dalhousie University. She lived in Alexandra Hall throughout her university years and received a gold ‘K’ for her service as the last head girl of the Women’s Student Council.
Elizabeth articled with a Vancouver law firm and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1960. After practising on her own and as an associate, she and her husband Theodore (Ted) Reagh, QC, formed a private practice in 1964, Reagh & Reagh, in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. The practice relocated to Charlottetown, PEI, when the Reaghs moved there in 1975. Following her husband’s death in 2000, Elizabeth continued as a sole practitioner in Charlottetown.
In addition to raising four children and maintaining a busy law practice, Elizabeth has been active in several charitable organizations. She chaired the Prince Edward Island Review Board from 1988 to 2012 and continues to serve as a board member. She began work as a trained mediator in 1988, specializing in elder mediation. In 2010 she received a leadership award from the Elder Mediation International Network during the Third World Summit and Symposium on Elder Care in Chicago.
As of June 2014, Elizabeth has worked as a lawyer for 54 years, with an emphasis on real estate, wills and estates, and mediation. She was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1999 and has been a practising member of Collaborative Practice PEI (and its predecessor) since 2004.
