The ideal participant for this program is an adult learner who is curious about the arts and humanities. Previous experience studying this kind of academic material is not required. To get the most out of this program, you should expect to read works of philosophy and literature and be prepared to participate in online discussion classes. This is a non-credit program, which means you will not receive a credential or certificate for participating. However, you will learn in community with other like-minded and curious people, and you will deepen your understanding of the humanities.
This program costs $800 CAD in total. A deposit of $100 is due upon registration to hold your spot in the program. Two payments of $350 will be due in October and January. You will be able to make these payments online with a credit card through a secure payment portal.
The program runs from September 2026 to March 2027. The classes are entirely online. Registered learners will receive a link to a video lecture that they can watch on their own time and at their own pace. Every second Saturday, all learners will meet for an interactive online tutorial, which will be hosted on Zoom.
Enrolment in FYPals is limited, with only 40 spots available, so we encourage you to register as soon as possible. Should this series not receive enough participants to proceed, we will refund any registration deposits that have already been paid.
Members of the King’s faculty will lead each lecture and each discussion group (tutorial). Dr. Daniel Brandes is the FYPals Academic Coordinator.
You will need a computer with access to the internet. To get the most out of the interactive tutorial classes, you will need access to a microphone and camera (we recommend keeping your camera on for tutorials, so you can feel fully engaged during an online class).
We will provide the texts for this program for you to read as often as possible, but we may also ask you to purchase your readings from the King’s Co-Op Bookstore or your preferred bookseller.
