Class of 2025: Margot Bunz

Class of 2025: Margot Bunz

Margot Bunz came a long way from Calgary to play for the King’s Blue Devils, but the journey brought her a chance to play the game she loves while she studied, close friends, a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a pathway to her eventual career.

I was drawn to King’s because of the opportunity to play soccer at the college level while attending university. The relationship between King’s and Dalhousie is unique and awesome, and I am grateful that I could play soccer at King’s while taking classes at Dalhousie.

What program are you graduating from, and what inspired you to pursue that program?

I am graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I was inspired to do this program because I took a psychology class in high school and I really liked it, and because I knew I wanted to eventually do occupational therapy, and I had heard that psychology is a good undergraduate degree to do before that.

Was there a course, professor, reading requirement or experience that has had a lasting impact on you?

Being on the soccer team has had a lasting impact on me because I got to know some of my best friends on the team. I’ve gotten to have so many fun experiences with my teammates while playing a sport I love.

What’s your favourite snack for late night study sessions?

Probably Nerds Gummy Clusters.

What will you miss most?

Hanging out with and doing fun things with my friends, as well as being on the soccer team.

What’s one thing from your time at King’s that you’re especially proud of?

Probably being on the Dalhousie motionball committee. motionball is an organization that raises money for the Special Olympics, and this year motionballUDalhousie raised over $33,000 for Special Olympics Canada. We also had a really fun Marathon of Sport event where King’s and Dalhousie students along with athletes from Special Olympics had a day of playing sports together.

Thinking back to who you were when you received your acceptance letter, what would you tell her?

I would tell her that it is okay to be nervous but that the next four years will be an amazing experience and you will meet a lot of great people, so to try to live in the moment and enjoy it as much as possible!

As Encaenia approaches, do you have any insights you’d like to share for incoming students?

The main thing I would say is to try to get involved in something you are interested in on campus because that is a really good way to meet people who are like you and have similar values. Also, try new things because it will make the university experience more fun!

Where do you hope your degree takes you next?

Next year I am going to occupational therapy school, so I am hoping the things I have learned in my psychology degree will help me with that!
