Rachel Gillies has become the third member of the Gillies family to select King’s Badminton, with the Saint Johner signing with the Blue Devils ahead of the 2024-25 academic year. Gillies is the younger sibling of former King’s Badminton player Jack Gillies, BSc’23 and rising third year, Anna Gillies, who helped King’s capture their 7th consecutive ACAA championship, and a bronze medal finish at the CCAA National Championship in March.
Rachel, who presently attends Simonds High School in Saint John, is a member of the Saint John Junior Badminton Club and brings an impressive resume to the Blue Devils’ roster. A New Brunswick 2024 U-19 provincial champion in the girls singles, doubles, and mixed divisions, Rachel also earned a spot on the 2023 New Brunswick Canada Games, competing in this last year in Prince Edward Island. In 2023, Rachel also earned honours at the senior women’s level, winning both the women’s and mixed doubles’ division at the provincial championship.
“I chose King’s for their outstanding badminton program and their strong academic reputation,” says Gillies. “I am excited to live in a bigger city and I can’t wait to join the UKC Blue Devils family.”
While playing badminton, Gillies intends to pursue studies in the Bachelor of Science program.
