Matt Bartley brings a dynamic blend of leadership experience and educational expertise to his role as Director of Athletics at the University of King’s College. With over a decade of involvement in both the K–12 and postsecondary sectors, Matt’s work is grounded in the belief that athletics play a transformative role in student development, leadership, and belonging.
Originally from Nova Scotia, Matt holds a Bachelor of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Recreation from Dalhousie University, as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education in Leadership from St. Francis Xavier University. His career began as a physical and health education teacher and athletic director where he led inclusive athletic programming and championed student-focused initiatives.
Matt later joined the Education Faculty at StFX as a Lecturer for Physical and Health Education Curriculum and Instruction, teaching and mentoring future educators. His approach to teaching emphasized collaboration, growth mindset, and real-world application, particularly in the fields of physical education and coaching.
In parallel with his academic work, Matt has built a strong coaching profile as an assistant coach with Canada’s men’s national goalball team, a Paralympic sport for athletes with visual impairments. He has helped guide the team at national and international competitions, contributing to Canada’s growing presence on the world stage.
He is excited to build on the strong foundations of the university’s athletics program and committed to fostering a supportive, high-performing environment for student-athletes. He thrives in collaborative settings and believes that sport, at its best, strengthens community and cultivates resilience.
