To all in our King’s community,
Notwithstanding the news we write to share, we want you to know we are looking forward to the coming academic year and to greeting you on your return to the Quad, or your introduction to the Quad.
Today, Dalhousie announced a lockout of Dalhousie Faculty Association members. King’s shares the hope negotiations will continue and a resolution will be found as soon as possible, with no impact or as little impact as possible to the fall term.
However, we must advise that academic instruction at King’s and Dalhousie is tightly integrated, with some specific differences. If the lockout is not resolved before the start of term, teaching at King’s will be impacted until there is a resolution.
We write to provide important information and to direct you to Dalhousie’s latest communication which can be found on their Labour Relations Website along with other information that they update regularly.
Our overriding concern in any work stoppage is the impact on students. Our response is guided by a desire to minimize impacts and make them as fair to all students as possible.
Should the disruption remain unresolved on September 2, classes at King’s open to registration by both King’s and Dalhousie students will be suspended.
FOR NEW STUDENTS:
FOR RETURNING STUDENTS:
Classes that will continue unaffected are:
All other aspects of college and residence life at King’s will continue as usual.
If you are an incoming residence student and you have specific questions, you can email residence@ukings.ca and a member of the student life team will respond.
King’s is a small community that invests in support for our students and this will continue.
We remain hopeful that a resolution can be found quickly between Dalhousie and the Dalhousie Faculty Association.
Please review the information on the Dalhousie’s Labour Relations Website.
We also commit to keeping you informed as we learn more.
Sincerely,
Tim Currie
Vice–President
