President Vine is continuing a now-beloved tradition at King’s—Lunch in the Lodge brings a King’s alum to have lunch with current students. Together, they enjoy a delicious meal and casual conversation.
Reserve your seat at the table as President Vine invites students to join him and Jaime Burnett, a Kjipuktuk/Halifax-based novelist, musician and lawyer for what promises to be a fascinating conversation and fantastic opportunity to meet our incredible alum.
Jaime Burnet, BA’08, is a novelist, musician and lawyer. She moved to Kjipuktuk/Halifax in 2005 to attend the Journalism program at the University of King’s College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie and King’s in 2008. She earned a Master of Arts in Women & Gender Studies and Sexual Diversity Studies from the University of Toronto in 2009, then returned to Halifax, where she worked at local feminist sex shop and bookstore Venus Envy and sang in a queer punk band for several years before returning to Dalhousie to earn a Juris Doctor in 2016.
In 2019, Jaime published her first novel, Crocuses Hatch From Snow, which was shortlisted for the Thomas Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award and the ReLit Award. Jaime’s second novel, milktooth, was published in April 2025. Milktooth was longlisted for the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction—the world’s largest literary prize recognizing women and nonbinary writers, was named a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction, and won the Thomas Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award and the Golden Crown Literary Society’s award for General Fiction.
Jaime lives in Kjipuktuk/Halifax with her wife and kids, sings in the band SALTLAMP, and practices law at Pink Larkin, specializing in labour and human rights law.
