Chapel IconLast year, in the midst of ‘Covidtide’, the Chapel commissioned a substantial work of art. Alumnus Benjamin von Bredow wrote a traditional ‘icon’ of the Blessed Virgin Mary based on a sixth-century prototype – one of only eight such icons to survive the iconoclastic purges of the eighth and ninth centuries. The icon is to be blessed on Monday afternoon at 5 p.m., after resting on the altar for the past forty days, in accordance with traditional Eastern practice. The artist will be on hand to say a few words about the icon and answer questions around 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome. And after this the icon will be at the back of the Chapel where anyone can come to see it any time the Chapel is open.
