Evolving from medieval Gregorian chant, choral music of the Renaissance is characterized by its rich harmonic texture consisting of independent melodic lines, sung simultaneously. Works of this polyphonic style remain some of the most frequently performed today, both in liturgical and concert settings.
In this ‘Night FYP’ event, the King’s College Chapel Choir will perform works spanning the 11th to 17th centuries from the English, Italian, Spanish and French schools. As the Chapel Choir takes us through the evolution of choral music from the medieval period to the renaissance, Director of Music Gabriel O’Brien will offer commentary on the music itself, as well as an exploration of the historical and political contexts that informed the composers’ music.
Please join us in the Chapel to experience the transcendent choral music of the Renaissance! All are welcome.
