Poet Doyali Islam will be hosted by the Haliburton Society on Oct. 3.

The acclaimed Toronto poet Doyali Islam will be hosted by the Haliburton Society on October 3rd as the first guest in a new poetry reading series called Live Poets! The reading will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the President’s Lodge and will be followed by a reception. Copies of Doyali’s work, heft, will be on sale.

About Doyali Islam

Doyali Islam’s second poetry book is heft (McClelland & Stewart, 2019). Poems from this collection have been published in Kenyon Review Online and Best Canadian Poetry; have won several national contests and prizes; and have been made into poetry-films. In 2017, Doyali was a National Magazine Award finalist, and in 2019, she won Battle of the Bards. Doyali has been interviewed by Anne Michaels, Quill & Quire, CBC Radio’s The Sunday Edition, and CBC Radio’s The Next Chapter, and has been in conversation with Forrest Gander.
