Hope & Despair About Democracy

Recent political developments have led many to lose confidence that democracy is the best possible political system.

In light of this crisis of confidence, it is good to clarify why democracy has been viewed as the best way for humans to organize themselves in community.

This talk will travel back to the world’s first democracy, Athenian democracy in the 5th century BCE, to consider the philosophical and political arguments for and against democratic regimes.
