Men’s Soccer—Blue Devils returning to winning form

The Blue Devils men’s soccer team returned to action this past weekend with a doubleheader at home, taking on Holland College and Dal AC.

On Saturday, the Blue Devils faced the Holland College Hurricanes in search of their first win of the season. The team came out firing, with Luke Kotaska finding the back of the net just six minutes into the game, giving the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead. The score remained unchanged until the 63rd minute, when Coleton Walker doubled the lead, slotting the ball past Holland’s goalkeeper, Nolan Kowel, to secure a 2-0 victory. This marked the Blue Devils’ first win of the season, maintaining their undefeated status.

The Blue Devils aimed to keep the momentum going on Sunday as they took on the Dal AC Rams at Wickwire. In a match dominated by the home side, the Blue Devils registered an impressive 19 shots, while limiting the Rams to just two. Despite their control, the Blue Devils struggled to convert chances until the 78th minute when captain Jonah Cameron calmly converted a penalty to give them a 1-0 lead, which they held until the final whistle.

The Blue Devils capped off the weekend with a perfect six points, continuing their strong start to the season.

Women’s Soccer—4-point weekend for Blue Devils

With crucial points on the line in the competitive race for the top seed, the Blue Devils women’s soccer team faced off against last year’s ACAA champions, the Holland College Hurricanes, and the Dal AC Rams.

In a highly anticipated rematch with the Hurricanes, the Blue Devils sought redemption for their finals loss from last season. The match was tightly contested, with both teams showcasing strong defensive play. Despite creating six scoring opportunities, the Blue Devils were unable to convert. Goalkeeper Emma Kuzmyk stood tall, making several outstanding saves to keep the Hurricanes at bay. The game ended in a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

The following day, the Blue Devils took on the Dal AC Rams in a dominant display of offense. Controlling the game from the outset, the Blue Devils registered 20 shots, finding the back of the net three times. Faye Little opened the scoring in the 20th minute, followed by Avery Sorensen’s strike just before halftime, and Erika Cox sealing the 3-0 victory with a goal in the 79th minute.

With a four-point weekend in hand, the Blue Devils remain in third place, just one point behind league leaders MSVU.
