Celebration of life for Calvin Headley

A “celebration of life” for Calvin Headley will take place on Tuesday, 23 July, 4.00 PM, in Alumni Hall at the University of King’s College, 6350 Coburg Road, Halifax. Calvin’s family and friends are invited to attend.

Calvin–or ‘Snake’, as he was affectionately known–died on 3 July after an accidental fall. He was a popular and larger than life character who was well known in Nova Scotia basketball circles.

Calvin studied at King’s between 1975 and 1979, where he played soccer and basketball and was named male Athlete of the Year in 1977-78. He served as assistant coach of the King’s Blue Devils varsity basketball team under Bev Greenlaw between 1979 and 1987.

In the 1980s, Calvin moved from coaching to refereeing. He made his mark at all levels of basketball in the province, calling over 100 games a year for youth leagues, provincial and varsity leagues and tournaments, and the Halifax Rainmen.
