Yuan Wang hoped coming to King’s for her Master of Journalism degree from Sichuan, China would give her new skills and a new way of thinking. She exceeded her goals, coming away with her MJ and the Peter Mansbridge Investigative Writing Award for work praised as nuanced and elegant.
What drew you to King’s originally?
The program’s course setting and the campus location in a coastal city.
What program are you graduating from, and what inspired you to pursue that program?
Master of Journalism; I wanted to address my questions about the industry through academic training.

I found the data journalism course really fun and highly relevant; it equipped me with advanced tools and a new way of thinking.

Make peace with the deadline—it drives productivity.

The magazine corner at the library.
What’s one thing from your time at King’s that you’re especially proud of?
Cobbled together Python code to control a railway traffic light in a data journalism assignment.

You are going to have a good time. Just stay sharp and keep learning!
