Mohamed Hashem, a third year journalism student at King’s, has been chosen to host this year’s Africa Night following auditions for the spot.He is the first King’s student to host this event, the 25th of its kind, which takes place on 23 March 2013 at the Cunard Centre. Egyptian-born Moh is also the first North African to take on this role.
The Dalhousie African Students Association and the Saint Mary’s African Society organise the event each year. The theme for this year is ‘The New Face of Africa’, and it is hoped that all the faces and cultures of the African continent wil be represented.
Moh, who is also president of the King’s Day Students Society, believes strongly that King’s students should not feel held back by King’s size. “Being a King’s student is a bit like being part of a minority. But it’s important to remember that we can compete for these roles and it is good for us to be seen doing good things.”
