Requiescat in pace: Dr Kraft von Maltzahn

The King’s community will be saddened to learn that Dr. Kraft von Maltzahn died on the evening of 2 April 2013. A distinguished scholar, he was an Inglis Professor and Professor Emeritus at the University of King’s College and Professor Emeritus of Biology at Dalhousie University. 

Dr von Maltzahn joined the Dalhousie faculty in 1954 as an assistant professor and served as chair of the Department of Biology from 1963 until 1972. He became associated with King’s in the 1970s through his work to open the Foundation Year Programme to science students. He lectured in the programme for many years. In 1979, Dr von Maltzahn joined the King’s faculty as a Carnegie Professor. He retired in 1991. 

Further information, including details concerning a memorial service, will be forthcoming. On behalf of everyone here at King’s, deepest condolences are extended to his family. The flags have been lowered to half mast in his honour.
