We believe in challenging work, rewarding opportunities and creating positive impact. The research and data entry intern will support Compass Rose public affairs counsellors in their client monitoring work and support in the development of a comprehensive database. This includes: 

  • Collecting data from websites, social media, or public platforms, including news outlets 
  • Following Parliamentary proceedings such as Question Period in the House and Senate, committee hearings and reports and legislative debates 
  • Government documents such as news releases, statements, reports and monitoring press conferences and public appearances 
  • General monitoring of local and national media 
  • Inputting the information collected into a database 

What the intern would bring: 

  • Understanding of database management, data entry and research. Familiarity with tools like Excel, Google Sheets, basic database software, and Open AI would be beneficial. The intern should be comfortable with organizing and inputting data, and performing basic data analysis.  
  • Strong attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, and good communication skills will be essential. 
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make complex issues easily understood across a variety of stakeholder audiences. Excellent critical thinking skills is also required.  
  • A general understanding or ability to read French is also an asset. 
  • Excellent judgment and the skills to balance competing priorities. 
  • A desire to learn and grow. 
  • An interest in public affairs, public policy, Canadian federal politics or elections is a strong asset.

Details: 

Location: Ottawa, Ont., or remote    

Contract: 4 months (with possibility for renewal), starting May 5 

Payment: $10,000 (less benefits, taxes, and costs for travel) 

Eligibility:  Current students in a University of King’s College program, Journalism or otherwise, and recent graduates (within the last 2 years)
