UKC Rugby Recap, October 3-12

UKC Rugby Recap, October 3-12

Women’s Rugby

No Thanksgiving slump for the UKC women, left little in doubt in the midweek, routing the visiting Dal AC Rams by a score of 109-0 at St. Francis Field in Halifax. Amber Beswitherick, Chloe Beamish, Amy Randell, Sophie Van Berkel, Mali Triger and Amelia Jardine all found their way onto the score sheet, with Jardine leading the way with 34 points from four tries and seven conversions.

Still undefeated at home, King’s improves to 3-1 on the season, with the lone loss coming from league leaders UNB in the previous game week. Presently tied for second in the league, the UKC women will next travel to Mount Allison for a crucial match ahead of the post season. Both sporting 3-1 records, the Mounties are set to host King’s on Sunday, October 16 at 5:30 p.m. in Sackville, NB, with the winner taking sole ownership of the second place position in the table. The league standings will become increasingly more critical as the post season approaches, with hosting rights going to the top two seeds for the semi-finals.

Men’s Rugby

An empty game week for Geno Carew’s squad, who still remain undefeated and top of the league table. Cancellations for post-Fiona weather has condensed the schedule for the Blue Devils, who now face a stiff back half of the season, beginning this weekend with trips to Cape Breton and Acadia on the docket. These will be the only regular season meetings between the sides, with both matches doubling to be worth four points each. The return of Noah Lawless and Joel Benediston, who missed the replay against STFX, bodes well for the Kingsmen, and the additional rest will have gone a long way for those players monitoring injuries.

@Acadia October 16th, 2 p.m.
