Women’s Volleyball

Two wins in two games for the UKC women, who maintain their undefeated streak at home, besting the Mount Allison Mounties and the Dal AC Rams on the weekend. Opening Saturday evening as host to MTA, the Blue Devils cruised to a 3-1 victory, with the lone win for the Mounties coming in a narrow 25-22 third set. King’s rocket start was encapsulated in a 25-15 routing of their visitors in the second set, reinforcing the Blue Devils as a top side in the ACAA. A 3-0 win in their Sunday fixture highlighted the depth of the UKC roster, with healthy rotation throughout the squad from the previous evening. With confidence increasing as the match progressed, King’s expanded the winning margin in each set, going 25-20, 25-18, and 25-15 in the three-set sweep.

Riding a four-match winning streak, the Blue Devils have slingshot themselves into second place, a single win off pace from league leaders MSVU. Though not the deepest in terms of numbers, Beate Shannon’s side has been able to rotate comfortably without a drop in quality. In Sunday’s match veterans Nicole Ponto, Elena Neufeld and Ella Walsh were rested and withheld from competition. Consistent service from junior setter, Claire Traynor, laid the groundwork for a multifaceted Blue Devils attack; with rookie Frances Cooke establishing herself as a fearsome hitter in her first ACAA campaign. Libero rotations have also been effective, with Halle Andreasen, Claire Davis and the aforementioned Walsh all donning the lib jersey throughout the season. With one match to go before the holiday break, the Blue Devils will be keen to finish off the Fall with their home record intact, and, with any luck, joint-top of the standings with MSVU, who will travel to Holland College for their final match of the term.
