King’s Journalism and MFA graduates shone once again at the recent Atlantic Journalism Awards (AJAs). Of the 78 awards handed out last week, 22 went to King’s alumni or faculty.
The AJAs have been honouring excellence in journalism in this region since 1981. The awards represent work from every platform – from newspapers to magazines, from radio to television, as well as digital journalism.
For the first time, the event on April 20th was held at three venues throughout the region, including Prince Hall on King’s campus. King’s Professor and AJA Board Director, Pauline Dakin, hosted the evening.
King’s alumni didn’t just represent almost more than a quarter of the winners, their journalistic careers now span decades.
King’s alumna Lindsay Jones, BJ(Hons)’01, swept the Newspaper Feature Writing category, winning gold and silver for two articles for The Globe and Mail. She also won a silver medal in the Enterprise/Long Form category in Digital Journalism.
Inglis Professor and MFA Cohort Director, Stephen Kimber, took home three medals, including both the gold and silver medals in the Best Profiles, Magazines category.
Two King’s alumni, Rob Antle, BJ(Hons)‘94, and Colleen Connors, BJ(Hons)‘07, worked together on a CBC Newfoundland and Labrador production team that took home gold for Business Reporting.
And the Jim MacNeill New Journalist Award went to recent King’s graduate, Nicola Seguin, BJ’21.
Congratulations to all the winners!
