The Manager, Marketing and Communications (Manager) positioned within the Enrolment and Student Life Office (ESLO), leads digital marketing and student communications initiatives for the University of King’s College to ensure quality content generation and cohesion across all marketing (digital and print) platforms. In consultation with Chief Enrolment and Student Life officer, and within the direction of institutional strategic enrolment plan, The Manager will lead strategy and follow trends to continually modify the strategy to remain current and resonate with the segmented and targeted audiences per channel. The Manager will effectively communicate the results of trend research with the marketing and communications officers in order to establish, advise and support the setting and meeting of audience engagement targets.

In conjunction with the Chief Enrolment and Student Life Officer and the Assistant Registrar, Recruitment who is responsible for strategic and tactical student recruitment activities, the Manager will work with marketing and communications officers, external agencies and suppliers to create and oversee quality content and campaigns for student recruitment and retention. This work will be done in cooperation and partnership with the Associate Director, Communications in the Advancement Office (AO) if/when applicable, home to King’s digital channels such as the website, social channels and institutional brand management. The Manager will physically be located with the ESLO in Halifax to perform optimally within the position as well as work remotely when possible.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Digital branding – build digital brand guidelines to aid in immediate and long-term content planning for the ESLO and Advancement Office (Recruitment Communications Plan); and with Advancement, advise and support best practices for digital presence for King’s President in alignment with King’s brand strategy (Institutional Communications Plan – TBD as currently AO does this as its under their purview).
  2. Digital marketing – Own and optimize institutional webpages pertaining to prospective students, leverage social media through SEO and trend research, analyze data across all major channels, develop analytic reports collecting data from all major platforms, collaborate with website manager to build traffic strategies, evaluate, and advise on planning budget for marketing initiatives including digital ad campaigns and inorganic paid marketing campaigns (influencer marketing). Collaborate with the ESLO and the Recruitment team to identify and support an integrated approach to recruitment. Work with external agencies on paid advertising initiatives for recruitment purposes.
  3. Student Communications – ensure the coherent integration of student communications and the student voice across digital platforms.
  4. Content creation and production – manage video, photo, and livestream productions with colleagues and external vendors as required.
  5. Supervise and support direct reports:
    • Marketing and Communication Officer, Prospective student recruitment
    • Social Media Assistant/Freelancer (with Associate Director, Communications)
    • Student assistants
  6. Work with external agencies and suppliers including:
    • Media buyers
    • Graphic designers
    • Public relations firms
    • Media monitoring (in adverse situations)
    • Photographers
    • Videographers
    • Printers

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree, minimum in arts, business, communications, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in content generation and strategic insight in digital platforms with ever increasing supervisory duties is required.
  • Experience with university student and stakeholders’ communications, recruitment and digital marketing preferred.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office and SharePoint is required.
  • Proficient in graphic design, social media, writing, and editing and experience with Canva and Creative Cloud is essential.
  • Content management systems skills including back-end content integration, uploading graphics/images and website management including Google Analytics is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must have impeccable judgment and goal-oriented strategic focus.
  • Must have experience preparing digital marketing assets, including graphics and text.
  • Video editing skills and print production proofing skills is preferred.
  • Ideally experience with media and advertising agencies and brand management is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing is required.
  • Must have Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

Closing Date: August 23, 2024

Salary will be commensurate with level of education and experience. The starting salary range is $64,278 to $71,808 annually. A comprehensive group benefits package is offered including membership in the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP).
