Women’s Soccer – Women walk away with two draws

The Blue Devils women’s soccer team faced another doubleheader this past weekend, taking on both the UNBSJ Seawolves and the STU Tommies in two high-stakes matchups.

Saturday’s contest against the Seawolves was a hard-fought battle, with both teams showcasing their physicality and defensive grit. Each side made several attempts to break through, but neither team could find a way past the opposing backline. Strong defensive performances defined the game as both the Blue Devils and Seawolves held firm for the full 90 minutes. Despite their best efforts, the scoreboard remained unchanged, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

On Sunday, the Blue Devils returned to the pitch to face the STU Tommies in another fiercely contested encounter. Much like the previous day, the game was a tactical affair, with defense again taking centre stage. However, the Tommies managed to find a breakthrough in the 20th minute, lofting a ball just over goalkeeper Emma Kuzmyk’s hands to take a 1-0 lead. Undeterred, the Blue Devils responded with determination. Just before halftime, Ariana Nikolaou provided the crucial equalizer in the 45th minute, finishing a well-placed assist from Tia Lovegrove to level the score. Both teams battled for a winner in the second half, but neither side could find the decisive goal. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

While the Blue Devils collected two hard-earned points from the weekend, they remain hungry for more as they continue to push for a higher place in the standings.

After the end of the weekend, the Blue Devils sit in third place.

Men’s Soccer – Blue Devils come away with one win and one loss

Following a perfect six-point weekend, the Blue Devils men’s soccer team entered another back-to-back weekend, eager to build on their recent success.

On Saturday, the Blue Devils faced off against the UNBSJ Seawolves in a tightly contested battle. The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with both sides struggling to break through each other’s defenses. However, early in the second half, Rowan Houlihan stepped up and netted his first goal as a Blue Devil, giving UKC a decisive 1-0 lead. The defense, anchored by goalkeeper Liam Collings, who made a flawless seven saves on seven shots, held firm throughout the remainder of the match. Houlihan’s lone goal and Collings’ standout performance between the posts were enough to secure a 1-0 victory, earning the team another three points.

On Sunday, the Blue Devils returned to Wickwire Field to take on the league-leading STU Tommies. The Tommies came out with intent, applying pressure early and forcing Collings into a series of impressive saves to keep UKC in the game. However, the Tommies’ relentless attack proved too much to contain. They broke the deadlock in the 17th minute and added two more in the 48th and 58th minutes, cementing a 3-0 victory.

After the weekend’s results, the Blue Devils remain tied for second place in the ACAA standings, still well-positioned as they continue their push for a strong finish to the season.
