Arts graduates are highly flexible, creative and adaptable in how and where they learn. Through work-based, on-the-job learning they gain a wide range of business skills and often become ‘accidental’ managers – even if their work and learning experiences are not in business environments. What’s more, that ‘evidence’ of the knowledge, skills and abilities gained through work exists in a variety of forms; this evidence can be demonstrated, validated and recognized through a microcredential.
This short-term, independent, online learning program, Work-Based Microcredentials in Business Management is a self-directed opportunity provided with funding from the Province of Nova Scotia. It offers liberal arts graduates a path to identify acquired business management skills by evidencing and credentialing through a recognition of prior learning (RPL) approach.
The Canadian Association of Prior Learning Assessment defines RPL as ‘processes that allow individuals to identify, document, have assessed and gain recognition for their prior learning’
In this Microcredentials program, RPL creates a pathway for participants who have prior learning, knowledge, skills and abilities from a range of environments to have learned skills recognized. Participants may source evidence from a variety of lived-experience or areas such as: part-time work, volunteerism, cultural events, full time work, education or recreational experiences.
In this Microcredentials program, you will use a structured approach to submit and provide your evidence for assessment.
Using Evidence to earn a Microcredential
There are two steps to completing a Module to earn the associated Microcredential.
Step 1: Submit evidence proving your knowledge of each training item within the module.
Step 2: Submit evidence that demonstrates your cumulative knowledge, skills and abilities for the module as a whole.
This Evidence Submission Guide <load PDF> describes what ‘evidence’ is and how it is to be submitted. We recommend that you download and print this guide, and use it as collect
