Join us for the penultimate event in the Public Lecture Series: Representations of Disability in Historical, Scientific and Artistic Perspectives.
It will feature a special screening of Director Josh Dunn’s award-winning film Our Hearts Aren’t Disabled.
The film examines the romantic lives and trials of six people living with mobility challenges. Its characters are people of different ages, genders, orientations and ethnicities.
About Josh Dunn
Josh Dunn, BA(’05), is a multi-disciplinary artist. In this film he is both subject and interviewer, exploring the difficulties he and others face. Although the film is, at times, a painful journey filled with heartbreak, it also features a healthy dose of wit, humor and perseverance, helping the viewer to see that disability places no barrier on the power and beauty of one’s humanity.
Our Hearts Aren’t Disabled won the best first-time filmmaker award in Cannes International Cinema Festival (France). It has also been selected by The Atlantic International Film Festival (NS), Bluenose Ability Arts & Film Festival (NS), First-Time Filmmaker Sessions @ Pinewood Studios (UK), Liberation Docfest (Bangladesh), Parrsboro Film Festival (NS), The Paus Premieres Festival (UK), Africa International Human Rights Film Festival (Africa), and has won the best screenplay award in BOSIFEST (Serbia).
