General Description

Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Residence Life, the Program & Community Engagement Coordinator, organizes residence-wide social, educational and leadership programming for over 260 residence students. The Program & Community Engagement Coordinator fosters meaningful relationships with both on-campus and community partners to create engaging, student-centered programming. This position also co-manages the residence programming budget with the Assistant Dean of Residence Life.

The Program & Community Engagement Coordinator incumbent must also be hired as a Residence Don at King’s. Therefore, applicants who are interested in the Program & Community Engagement position must also apply to be a Residence Don (part-time) at King’s. The incumbent can expect to work 15 to 18 hours a week as a Residence Don and approximately 20 hours a week working as the Program & Community Engagement Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Residence-Wide Programming
    • Create and implement a curriculum of health promoting, harm reducing and community building programs and activities.
    • Identify and develop relationships with both on campus and off campus partners, who are experienced in their field, to facilitate educational workshops for students.
    • Collaborate with other on campus partners like the Student Support Advisor, Director of Equity & Community Supports, Sexual Health & Safety Officer, Accessibility Officer, Athletics and more to co-create programming.
    • Lead the organization of key community events like Open Mic Nights, Queering the Quad, Big Night and more.
    • Provide programming support to the Don team.
  • Residence Programming Communications
    • Manage UKC Residence social media accounts including writing, designing, editing, and publishing content weekly.
    • Adhere to a marketing plan that will provide ample notice of upcoming events to maximize student engagement.
    • Collaborate with the Student Engagement & Retention Coordinator and the Website Manager to promote residence programs on other King’s media channels.
    • Collaborate with other on campus partners like the Student Support Advisor, Director of Equity and Community Supports, Sexual Health & Safety Officer, Athletics and more to promote their services and events within residence.
  • Co-Manage the Residence Programming Budget
    • Allot funds from the Residence Programming budget to individual programs based on an assessment of funding needs in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Residence Life.
    • Manage the acquisition of programming supplies and
    • Provide administrative support to the Residence Don Team for program-related expenses and budgeting.
    • Organize and submit expense reports & reimbursement requests in accordance with King’s standards as set by the Bursar’s Office.

Administrative Duties

  • Assess and evaluate the impact of residence programming and prepare reports on trends.
  • Review, assess and approve Don programming proposals.
  • Manage supplies and materials for programming and events.
  • Support special projects directed by the Assistant Dean of Residence Life or the Dean of Students.
  • Assist in the Residence Don and Patrol team training program as needed.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

The Program & Community Engagement Coordinator will be a trusted and enthusiastic community builder with a passion for working with youth to support their personal growth and development.

Additional qualifications, skills and experience include:

  • At least one (1) year of experience working in Residence Life at an educational institution or experience in program delivery in a similar field (e.g. youth, mental health, community development).
  • Ability to cultivate a sense of belonging for students of diverse cultures, worldviews, and lived experiences.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating.
  • Possess a high level of creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing multiple competing tasks and priorities.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to support and advance equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging within the residence community through residence programming initiatives.

Duration of Assignment

The appointment will formally commence on July 1, 2026, for a 12-month contract. The duration of the contract is subject to change based on budgetary approval.

Remuneration

Remuneration for the Program & Community Engagement Coordinator is combined with the Residence Don remuneration.

Program & Community Engagement Coordinator Remuneration: $20 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.

Don Remuneration: Remuneration for the Don position is comprised of taxable benefits (housing and food) and stipends.

Taxable Benefits: Taxable benefits are treated as income by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and may impact income taxes during the tax year(s) one works as a Don.

  • Housing accommodation for the duration of the contract:
    • A Don team member will be provided with a room or suite, in King’s residence, rent-free for the duration of their contract(s).
    • This is a taxable benefit, and the total value of this benefit will depend on the type of accommodation assigned to successful candidates in their offer letter.
  • Food accommodation during the fall and winter academic terms:
    • Dons are expected to have meals in Prince Hall (dining hall) regularly to assist in building relationships with their community.
      • Dons are assigned the 14 meals-per-week plan. This is a taxable benefit, valued at approximately $4,700 (subject to change as part of annual budget processes).
      • Dons can upgrade their meal plan and can pay the difference between the 14-meal plan and their chosen meal plan at their own expense. Dons cannot downgrade from the 14 meals-per-week plan.

Stipend: Dons receive a $500 stipend per term ($1000 total) as remuneration. This stipend is paid out at the end of each term.
