Men’s Soccer

ACAA Semi-Final
STU 1 – UKC 0

The first half of the game was evenly played by both teams as Saint Thomas Tommies and University of King’s College Blue Devils’ keepers kept strict command over attempted goals. After a by-the-finger-tips save by UKC Blue Devils’ Sam White and an explosion of cheers by the crowd both teams started to ramp up their intensity. Tommies started to control the majority of the possession towards half-time, however the score stayed at 0-0.

Teams exploded on to the field ready to break the zero tie. UKC’s defensive organization remained tight as they maintained the majority of possession and goal attempts. UKC’s Shinji Yamamoto and Tommie’s David Effiong and Kyle Yearwood were the players to watch throughout the action. The game started a valiant back and forth, but, it was Eric Prior of the Tommies who ultimately scored the first goal of the game. The final score was 1-0.

Players of the game were of Shinji Yamamoto of UKC Blue Devils and Eric Prior of the STU Tommies.

Women’s Volleyball

UKC 3 – STU 1

The St. Thomas University Tommies women’s volleyball team held their season home opener against the University of Kings College (UKC) Blue Devils on Saturday. In their battle to win the first game on home turf, the Tommies fell short against UKC, 3-1.

Alex Jackson and Sophia Josenhans of UKC pushed the Tommies’ boundaries with considerable power offensively, and effective court coverage and digs. The Tommies struggled with service errors, but Hannah Millier and Krysteena Clements were strong assets at the net with blocks and kills.

The Tommies are back at it Sunday at the LB Gym when they host the MSVU Mystics at noon. The Blue Devils will head to Saint John for a date with the Seawolves, at noon.

UNBSJ 3 – UKC 0

Home opening weekend at UNB Saint John ended on a good note for the Seawolves as they took the win against the UKC Blue Devils 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-18). Abby Hourigan took the lead in kills with 5 and Rebecca Worden and Isabelle Roach both put up 8 assists for the Blue Devils. Kirstin Conrad put in some work with 11 digs. On the Seawolves side, middle hitter Maggie Birney led the team with 9 kills. Taylor McGrattan hustled hard with 20 assists and Libero Meagan Kozak added 11 digs. A great effort by both teams!
