Athletics Roundup — Sept. 9-15

Men’s Soccer

UKC 1 – Dal AC 0

It was a cold and blustery day as the UKC Blue Devils faced off against the visiting DAL AC Rams at Mainland Commons. After a chippy and hard-fought first half saw a score of 0-0, Kings own Mubarek Abdul Azeez pushed in the lone goal of the match! The Blue Devils look to keep things “heading” in the right direction as they ship off to PEI to face off against Holland College tomorrow!

UKC 2 – HC 2

Will Fitzgerald of the University of Kings College Blue Devils scored the lone 1st half goal while the two teams battled out until halftime. Nick Little put up a second goal for the Blue Devils at the 47th minute. Kai Yamamoto had his second goal of the season at the 59th minute for the Holland Hurricanes. The Hurricanes then had many close chances in the late second half, then Alex Tougher scored his first ACAA goal tying the game up 2-2. The two teams battled right until the end, but the game finished with a 2-2 draw.

Women’s Soccer

UKC 1 – Dal AC 0

On a windy day at the Mainland Commons, the UKC Blue Devils “kicked” off their 2019 season with a 1-0 win over the visiting Dal AC Rams. Kings’ lone goal came courtesy of a wicked strike from Kings’ #13 Rebecca Dupuis. The shot from 25 yards hit the crossbar, ricocheted off of the Dal keeper’s back, and into the net. Kings’ looks to “keep the ball rolling” on Sunday as they travel to PEI to take on Holland College.

HC 2 – UKC 0

Jazae Smith of Hamilton, Bermuda scored her first ACAA goal for the Hurricanes just 7 minutes into play over the UKC Kings. Emily Cormier of Charlottetown added extra security for the ‘Cane’s just 11 minutes later at the 18 minute mark with her first ACAA goal as well. The Canes managed to hold the Blue Devils off for the rest of the game.

Men’s Rugby

Dal 67 – UKC 5

It was tough sledding in the Men’s rugby season opener as they lost to rivals Dalhousie 67-5. After a slow start their defence improved as the game went on, led by Noah Lawless and Ryoma Mbuchi. King’s rookie scrumhalf Dylan Aleck made a smart play to pick from the ruck at the goal line for King’s lone score. The Blue Devils will look to rebound against Acadia. Noah Lawless was player of the game for King’s.

Women’s Rugby

MTA 27 – UKC 12

A close loss for the Blue Devils on their first game of the season. Tries from Keziah Funk and Taylor Saunders, complimented by a conversion off the boot of Jessica Gray gave UKC a strong showing on offense as the new squad looks to mesh better in their coming fixtures.
