In a week jam-packed with home and away games, here’s what you might’ve missed from UKC Athletics…

Women’s Soccer

UKC vs. HC

It was a beautiful day at Wickwire field as the UKC Blue Devils Women’s Soccer team took the pitch against the visiting Holland Hurricanes.  The devils wasted no time getting on the board with a first-minute goal delivered by Rebecca Dupuis.  The rest of the game was competitive and fast-paced with Kings holding strong throughout. The equalizer came off a penalty shot by Jade Stewart of the Hurricanes. Final Score: 1-1 Draw

UKC vs. Crandall

On a beautiful fall afternoon in Bedford, the UKC Blue Devils best the visiting Crandall Chargers by a final score of 3-1. Kings’ goals came courtesy of Morgan Macintosh who netted two, and recent Blue Devils acquisition Margaret Fekete. Crandall’s goal came from #21 Claire Smith. Final Score: 3-1 Win

Men’s Soccer

UKC vs. HC

On a sunny Saturday afternoon at Wickwire Field, the UKC Blue Devils fell 3-0 to the visiting Holland Hurricanes in a ferocious battle of two powerhouses. Holland’s goals came courtesy of K. Yamamoto, Lourenso, and Tougher. The Blue Devils had 5 shots on goal, testing but not cracking Hurricanes’ goaltender Griffin. Final Score 0-3 Loss

UKC vs. Crandall

In a match originally slated for the day the might of Hurricane Dorian rained down upon the HRM, the UKC Blue Devils rained down a flurry of goals upon the visiting Crandall Chargers. The match finished 5-1, with the Chargers’ lone goal coming courtesy of a penalty kick from #11 Glenn Rowe. King’s goals came courtesy of 5 separate goal scorers: Layden, Sadek, Abdul Azeez, Yamamoto, and Little. The highlight of the match was Yamomoto’s goal, a wicked curling shot from outside the box that glanced in off of the top corner of the post. Honorable mention goes to #14 Simon Miller, with 2 assists on the day. Final Score: 5-1 Win

Women’s Rugby

UKC @ STU

In a hard road test in Fredricton, the Bluedevils fell short, though not without spirited performances from veterans and recruits alike. Despite a dominant performance by the Tommies, veteran prop Talia Meade and rookie flanker Vanessa Grant both broke through the green and gold defense to score trys. Complimented by a conversion by 3rd year center Makaela DeClute, the match ended 12-80 with the home Tommies taking the win. The Bluedevils will be back in action in Halifax on October 6th when they take on Mt. Allison in a Sunday-Lunchtime match kicking off at 1pm at St. Francis-Goorsebrook. Final Score 80-12 Loss

Men’s Rugby

UKC @ Dal

Dalhousie and King’s renewed their spirited rugby rivalry with a defensive battle at St. Francis Field on Saturday. Both teams struggled to stay disciplined in the first half with penalties and cards conceded. Ryoma Mbuchi slotted a penalty to take a 3-0 lead at the midpoint of the half, while King’s were two men down. Dalhousie broke through the stout Blue Devils defense at the end of the first half with a converted try to take a 7-3 lead into half time. In the second half, it was back and forth play until King’s forwards wore down the Tigers and touched down for a try and a convert with 10 minutes to go. Dalhousie responded with incisive runs from their backs to win a penalty at King’s 22-metre line. They played for the win instead of a tie, continuing their attack and forcing another King’s yellow card from the Blue Devils. King’s held up a try once while shorthanded, but the Tigers would not be denied a second time as the scored the winning try and convert on the last play of the match. Final Score: 14-10 Loss
