Conference of the Early Modern - call for papers

Sixth Annual Conference of the Early Modern
University of King’s College
January 26-27, 2018

The University of King’s College Early Modern Studies Program and the Early Modern Studies Society are delighted to open submissions for the Sixth Annual Conference of the Early Modern. The conference will be held on January 26-27, 2018 in K’jipuktuk (Halifax), Nova Scotia. We would like to acknowledge that the conference will take place on unceded and unsurrendered Mi’kmaq territory.

The Conference of the Early Modern is an annual undergraduate conference organized and run by the University of King’s College Early Modern Studies Society, with support from the Early Modern Studies Program. It is an opportunity for undergraduates to present their scholarship in front of their peers and to consider diverse themes and perspectives on the early modern period (we define this as 1450-1835). As the Early Modern Studies Program is interdisciplinary, we encourage submissions from a range of disciplines, including (but not limited to) philosophy, history, art history, history of science, and literature. The conference does not have a specific theme beyond the early modern period, and we encourage applicants to submit the work they feel most passionate about.

Submissions are due by 11:59 pm Atlantic Time December 20, 2017. Please email your submission to emss.kings@gmail.com. Please ensure that your attached submission is in Word rather than a PDF. All successful applicants are also considered for the upcoming edition of Babel, the Early Modern Studies Society’s undergraduate journal. In lieu of an abstract, please write up to one paragraph in the body of your email detailing why you are passionate to present the paper you have submitted.

Please be aware that, while we are happy to welcome students from outside our community, we cannot cover travel expenses or accommodations. At best, we could offer visitors mattresses/futons/sofas in our homes or the homes of our friends. If you need help finding accommodation, please include it in your email submission. Please also feel free to reach out via email with any questions you may have.
