Sodexo is 'Feeding our Future' again this summer
Summer means summer camps for many children around the province. For the Sodexo team, summer camps mean lots of lunchboxes–around 1200 each week.
Between July 6 and 21 August, Sodexo Staff, the Prince Hall team, and a line-up of loyal volunteers will participate again in the annual Sodexo Foundation Feeding our Future program, which provides lunchboxes for at-risk children attending camp. Last year the program surpassed the one million mark, while the King's team alone has made 87,124 lunchboxes since 2000.
All the sandwiches they make and vegetables they chop, together with granola bars and apples, get packed into lunchboxes and delivered to 10 different summer camps run by organizations such as the YMCA, the Salvation Army, North Dartmouth Outreach, Phoenix House, and Greystone Family SOS.
Volunteers are an essential ingredient in the success of the program. Last year teams of seven to 10 volunteers–often parents and children–could be found at their stations each Monday and Wednesday morning. They made a lot of sandwiches and they also had a lot of fun, too. The Sodexo team makes sure there are coffee breaks, games for the children, and time spent baking bread and cupcakes.
Volunteers are needed again this summer. Lunchboxes are made on Monday and Wednesday mornings for two hours.
