King’s alumni gather in Victoria

Caleb Lawrence sends us this news of a recent alumni gathering in Victoria:

“Thanks to Stephanie Bouris ( ’99), a follow up gathering of Vancouver Island King’s Alumni was held at the James Bay Inn Pub in Victoria on Wednesday evening, January 18th. Participants were those who were part of the King’s Worldwide Alumni Celebration on October 20th. At that time, several of those present had not met for over half a century, and the event was so exciting that plans were quickly made for a further meeting in the New Year.

Seven people were present at the James Bay Inn Pub, six of whom were alumni and one spouse. Four of those were alumni from late 1950s and mid 1960s (James Burchill (BA ’58), David Morris ( ’63), Helen Oldershaw (BA ’64), and Caleb Lawrence (BA ’62, BST ’64, DD ‘88), Stephanie Bouris and Moira Dann (MFA ’16). What a time we had together! When the meal was served we joined in the Latin grace from King’s formal meal days and the evening was spent recalling times at King’s, comparing experiences over the more than 50 year span, and how the life and traditions of King’s had developed and changed.

Dave and Caleb had copies of King’s Record volumes from 1958 through 1964/65 which were pored over and many memories shared – from initiation rituals through water bombings, Alexandra Hall curfews (and ways to get around them!), the advent of co-ed residency, building changes, and updates on many of those who had been part of the King’s College community during our student years. The evening passed all too quickly, with a determination to have more such gatherings in the future, hopefully involving still more King’s alumni now residing in this part of the world.”
