We chatted with King’s Varsity Administrator James Wise about the upcoming Annual Alumni Golf Tournament on July 13. During this event, alumni and friends gather for a day of fun and friendly competition on the green. If you’re on the fence about signing up—or you’d just like to learn more!—read this brief Q & A and have all your golfing questions answered.

Hi James, thank you for talking the time to answer these questions. For someone who is unfamiliar, what is the Annual Alumni Golf Tournament?

golf course with 2 golf carts sitting in background - trees on both sides of fairwayThe Annual Alumni Golf Tournament is the largest one-day fundraiser in support of the King’s Athletics Department. Now in its 28th year, the tournament returns to Granite Springs Golf Club in Bayside, NS, just a short 30-minute drive from King’s.

What can participants expect of the day?

Aside from a wonderful morning of golf, the tournament includes a variety of on-course activities in the afternoon. Blue Devils athletes will be on-site running various mini-games for exciting prizes including King’s merch, trip packages and an exclusive hole-in-one competition for a new car sponsored by O’Regan’s Automotive Group. Golfers will enjoy samples of food and refreshments from local vendors including Coldstream Distillery and Good Robot Brewing Company. Boxed lunches will also be provided on-course, with a light reception to follow the round’s conclusion.

What do the funds raised from this event support?

Proceeds go toward enriching the lives of all Blue Devils athletes; from purchasing new uniforms and gear, to funding initiatives that will enhance the competitive potential of our athletes, including equipment to aid strength and conditioning and film analysis.

What is the most important thing people should know before signing up for this event?

It is open to everyone in the King’s community and beyond, not just alumni. Participants should understand that the “tournament” element of the event’s title should be observed with a heavy dose of levity. Fundamentally, this event is about bringing alumni and friends together for a wonderful day on the golf course to laugh about old memories while making new ones in the process. The tournament is designed to maximize fun. First-time golfers have been known to walk away from the tournament with some of the most coveted prizes. Additionally, all registrants will receive a complementary gift from King’s comprising a tote bag, coffee mug, notebook and pens.

How do participants sign up?

The link to sign up can be found on the Athletics page of the King’s website. This link will redirect to the registration portal on eventcaddy.com, which is managed by our event partners, Event Partners Group. Any questions or concerns can be directed to athletics@ukings.ca.
