UKC Badminton cruises through first ACAA Tournament

Badminton

The Blue Devils badminton team wasted no time in recapturing their pre-Covid form, cruising to a first place finish in the ACAA season-opening tournament at Dal AC in Truro. Winning a total of eight events, the King’s squad swept the top bracket of each field, finishing first in both Men’s and Women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. The deep Blue Devils roster returns four CCAA National players, including men’s doubles silver medallists Jack Ronahan and Bryce Mason, as well as  Jack Gillies and Fiona Purdy. The quartet were joined by second year students Aidan Badcock-Parks, who won the Mens Singles B bracket, and soccer-converts Anna Dugandzic and Olivia Izsak, who played in their first tournaments with King’s. Rounding out the lineup for UKC was Anna Gillies, the lone first-year rookie, who was quick to make her mark on the ACAA, winning both the Women’s Singles A bracket and combining with Fiona Purdy to win the Women’s Doubles A bracket as well.

Finishing with 120 total points, the Blue Devils were trailed most closely by the Mount Allison Mounties at 111 points, with Dal AC and Universite Sainte-Anne posting 33 and 19 points respectively. The ACAA badminton teams will next travel to Sackville, NB to the home of the Mount Allison Mounties for the conference’s second tournament of the season on Saturday, November 20. This will be the last tournament of the Fall semester before the athletes shut down for the winter break.
