UKC Women's Rugby Recap November 1-7

Women’s Rugby

A historic trip to Fredericton for the ACAA Championships saw the UKC Women’s rugby team go toe-to-toe with the University of New Brunswick Reds for the 2021-22 conference title. The undefeated Reds lived up to their reputation, outlasting the visiting Blue Devils by a score of 62-5 with the lone try coming from UKC senior Rosa Toutah. Despite the loss, King’s can look back on this past season as a resounding success. Having endured multiple winless seasons over the past years, the Blue Devils emerged from the pandemic primed for competition, posting an impressive 5-3 record with a silver medal to boast.

Four Blue Devils were named to the ACAA All-Conference team: captain and scrum-half Mackenzie Butt, 2nd year flanker Hannah Risser, and rookies Caitlyn Gannon at flanker and Chloe Beamish at #8, who also won ACAA Rookie of the Year. The semi-final Blue Devils will be without the services of graduating players Brooklyn Connoly, Dara Carr, Rosa Toutah, and Taryn Hanrahan next season. Despite these departures, Head Coach Lysa McGrath will have plenty of depth for the matches ahead, with the bulk of the roster returning for the 2022-23 ACAA campaign.
