Gavin is excited to return to King’s for his third stint with the college!
In 2014/15 Gavin took part in the Foundation Year Program as a King’s student in residence and fell in love with the college and all it had to offer. He spent two years at King’s as both a student and student employee working with Conference Services and then transferred to Simon Fraser University to finish his degree in English and Curriculum Development and Instruction. After some soul searching and trying to determine whether he wanted to continue with SFU’s Professional Development Program to become a teacher or not, he felt drawn to come back to King’s for the second time in 2019 and became the Don of Alexandra Hall Lower Level. When Covid hit in 2020, Gavin went back home to support his family, but felt like he had unfinished business at King’s. When the opportunity arose to return to his favourite place as housing coordinator, he packed his bags and moved back across the country.
Gavin has four years experience living and working on a university campus, and brings two years of experience being a wilderness camp counsellor, trip logistics facilitator, and wilderness first responder. During Covid, he was a freelance developmental editor, working on four different novels. He also developed programming aimed at teaching seniors on how to navigate the internet, as well as spent time in a long-term care facility as a housekeeper and care aide. Gavin is excited to bring his experience to the new housing coordinator position, and even more excited to work with student patrol.
On a personal note, Gavin loves all music and almost always has one song or another stuck in his head. He loves the outdoors and being in nature, loves re-reading short stories by Katherine Mansfield, rewatching his favourite comfort tv shows, and is an absolute fantasy hockey nut, often managing two-to-four teams every year.
