Paul O’Connell concluded a 35-year career at the Halifax Chronicle-Herald in 2020. While at the Herald, he reported in bureaus in Sackville, N.S. and Bridgewater, worked on the editing desks at the Herald and its sister paper, The Mail-Star, served as the editor of The Novascotian for 10 years and as editor of The Sunday Herald. He led a project introducing a new prepress system in the Herald’s newsroom, eventually became newsroom director for the Herald and was Saltwire’s director of opinion and editorials. He worked on the Globe & Mail desk for Pagemasters and has assisted in the School of Journalism’s news workshop since 2021.
