Minors

A minor can be completed with all undergraduate degree types. You may be interested in adding a minor to your degree if you prefer a greater academic focus than simply taking a wide range of electives. The minor allows you to explore another subject area alongside your major.

King’s offers minors in each of its honours subjects:

Minor in Journalism Studies

Curiosity, a willingness to ask questions, and a desire to find and tell stories–these are the building blocks for those who want to study journalism.

Minor in Contemporary Studies

Understand the contemporary world by choosing from a wide range of courses in the areas of social and political thought, science and culture, and aesthetics, literature and literary theory, and film.

Minor in Early Modern Studies

Engage in an interdisciplinary exploration of the birth of the modern world.

Minor in History of Science and Technology

Studying science through this humanities-based approach demonstrates your seriousness to engage with one of the dominant paradigms of our time.

Thanks to the association between King’s and Dalhousie, you can choose from more than 75 minors, including some outside of the College of Arts and Science, to complement your degree.

*Note: Most minors can be accommodated within the majority of degree programs. However, minors that require more than 24 credit hours and/or that are offered outside of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Faculty of Science, may require deliberate academic planning during the early stages of your degree. In some cases, to accommodate these programs, students may not be able to satisfy all requirements in eight semesters and may need to take courses in the summer or devote an additional academic year to their studies. Students should refer to both the King’s Academic Calendar and the Dalhousie Academic Calendar for degree requirements and program eligibility. Students are also encouraged to speak with an academic advisor for assistance with planning.
