Jordan comes to King’s with 12 years of experience in the non-profit sector including work with Adsum for Women and Children, Out of the Cold Emergency Shelter, the Volunteer Doula Program, the Elizabeth Fry Society – Mainland Nova Scotia, and Supportive Housing for Young Mothers – YWCA Halifax. Here she developed skills in providing direct front line support to individuals who face high rates of sexual and intimate partner violence and supporting them through disclosures, safety planning, connecting to community resources, navigating reporting processes, and coping with trauma. Her work with campus-based organizations like CKDU 88.1fm, the Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group, and the DSU Sexual Assault and Harassment Phone Line provided opportunities to envision and implement practical supports and campaigns with teams of dedicated individuals that address rape culture, consent, bystander intervention, and increased accountability for perpetrators.
She is grateful for all of the above experiences for influencing her framework for addressing sexual violence. This work needs to be trauma informed, harm reductive, trans, gender non-conforming, and 2-spirit inclusive, anti-racist, anti-colonial, and reflective of the unique cultural and individual needs that every person who has experienced sexual violence deserves. Responses, campaigns, and supports need to be pro-choice, supportive of sex workers, and rooted in a practice where people are willing to come forward with their experiences because they trust they will be believed.

Some campus-based supports are available without formal reporting and the Sexualized Violence Policy outlines what reporting can look like on campus and in community.
