Employment Opportunity: Varsity Assistant (full-time, one year contract, subject to a probationary period)

Established in 1789, the University of King’s College is Canada’s oldest chartered university and is associated with Dalhousie University. The Athletics Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to assist with varsity programming and matters relating to the facility. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for athletics and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will report to the Athletics Administrator.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

Office and facility administration:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the Athletics Department.
  • Answer calls and manage email inquiries sent to the main athletics email account.
  • Monitor the use of facilities and regularly check that equipment is in good working order.
  • Administer financial paperwork for the department.
  • Submit all maintenance requests for the facility.
  • Act as liaison between student intramural coordinators and other groups with athletic programs.
  • In coordination with the Athletics Administrator, update and maintain the Athletics portion of the University of King’s College website.
  • Other duties as required.

Varsity Administration:

  • Distribute and be responsible for ACAA and/or CCAA mandatory forms.
  • Assist in facilitating and managing schedules and details for all away events for teams. This includes but is not limited to transportation, accommodations, itineraries and per diems.
  • Schedule and maintain all practice times for both indoor and outdoor sports. This includes dealing directly with HRM and Dalhousie for field rentals.
  • Assist the Athletics Administrator with all operational aspects of varsity games and tournaments, which take place on evenings and weekends.
  • Assist the Athletic Administrator and varsity coaches with the information and promotional aspects of recruitment and retention of varsity athletes.
  • Work with coaches on inventory and storage of uniforms and equipment.
  • Assist the Athletics Administrator by coordinating with coaches and gear suppliers to order all necessary uniforms, team gear and equipment.
  • Assist the Athletics Administrator with the management of sports information requirements with respect to but not limited to: University of King’s College and Conference websites, nomination forms, championship bulletins, schedules, and social media.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of two years of administrative experience, working in higher education and/or Athletics and Facility Management is essential.
  • Business or Office Administration diploma is required; Undergraduate degree is considered an asset.
  • An understanding of Athletics and varsity sports is a requirement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Word and Excel) is required.
  • Proficiency in WordPress is an asset.
  • Must have the ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment, both independently and within a group.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is required or willingness to obtain upon hire.

 

Closing Date: July 17, 2024

The starting salary range is $34,957 to $39,977 annually including a benefits plan with medical and dental.
