Holiday closure: The King's campus is closed from end of day December 20 to January 2.
Dear King’s community,
As many of you will have already noticed, last week Rideau Hall announced the names of those Canadians of distinction to have been most recently made members of the Order of Canada. If you did, you already know that Inglis Professor Sylvia D. Hamilton is now an OC as well as being an ONS.
Congratulations to Sylvia on this exceptional honour. To be honoured within a relatively few months by both one’s province and one’s country for a lifetime of outstanding contributions to film, poetry, public history and the visual arts, as well as for contributions to arts administration and to the teaching and mentoring of generations of students in journalism and other fields, is truly remarkable. It is a deeply deserved recognition for all that Sylvia has done to tell the stories of her ancestors and community and to help and inspire others to tell their stories. Truly, Sylvia is an outstanding Canadian.
Here at King’s, we are all fortunate to be among the many who Sylvia continues to inspire. Thank you Sylvia, especially for all you have meant to generations of King’s students and for all you have done to contribute to the work of King’s in becoming the inclusive community we aspire to be for everyone.
Please join me in extending congratulations to Sylvia and to celebrating this wonderful honour with her and her family.
Yours truly,
Bill
