Dr. Ian Stewart speaks at Clear Seas Symposium

On March 29-31, 2017, Dr. Ian Stewart spoke at a 3-day, international symposium about oceans data and transparency. The event was organized by many, including Dr. Stewart and Dalhousie’s Marine Affairs. The symposium topic, ‘Clear Seas: Transparency in ocean science and ocean governance’ discussed how to identify best practices for the exchange and flow of information as technology brings increasing transparency to ocean activities, both above and beneath the ocean’s surface. Members of indigenous and small-scale fishing communities and organizations, members of government, and other relevant practitioners attended the symposium along with social and natural scientists. Also in attendance was King’s alumna Laurie Starr (BScH ’14). Participant discussions centred around identifying best practices for the exchange and flow of ocean information.

The state of Ocean science is of interest to Dr. Stewart’s ongoing research, and he has spoken publicly on the subject at other occasions.
